Zenith Launches DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli II and Ultraviolet
Zenith unveiled two new DEFY Extreme chronographs, the Lapis Lazuli II and Ultraviolet, on an unspecified recent date, expanding its high-performance watch collection. The DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli II is a limited edition of 50 pieces, featuring a forged carbon and titanium case with a dial incorporating lapis lazuli counters and pyrite inclusions. This model is priced at $37,100 USD, showcasing Zenith's fusion of natural materials and technical craftsmanship.
The DEFY Extreme Ultraviolet model draws inspiration from intense light spectrums, presenting a matte microblasted titanium case complemented by violet-tinted sapphire elements and subdials. Its design emphasizes angular geometry and light interaction, with violet accents visible on the star-shaped oscillating weight through the caseback. This variant comes with multiple strap options, including violet rubber, titanium, and Velcro, and retails for $20,100 USD, offering a more accessible entry into Zenith's high-frequency chronograph offerings.
Both new chronographs share the El Primero 9004 automatic movement, a chronometer-certified caliber distinguished by its dual-escapement system. One escapement operates at 5 Hz (36,000 VpH) for standard timekeeping, providing a 50-hour power reserve. The second escapement is engineered for the chronograph function, operating at an exceptional 360,000 vph to enable 1/100th-of-a-second precision timing. This advanced movement underscores the technical prowess integrated into both the Lapis Lazuli II and Ultraviolet models, each measuring 45mm in case diameter.
