Yung Lean Opens First Major Art Exhibition in Stockholm

Jonatan Leandoer Håstad, widely recognized as the Swedish artist Yung Lean, is set to launch his inaugural major art exhibition, titled 'Collected Works 2016–2026.' This significant showcase will open next month, presenting a decade's worth of artistic creations that Håstad has been developing privately. The exhibition is scheduled to run from September 25 through October 11 at Torsgatan 22 in Stockholm, Sweden. The collection will encompass a diverse range of artistic mediums, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages, works on paper, dioramas, and site-specific installations. A new short film, executive produced by and starring Håstad, will also be featured, depicting two lovers navigating a surreal, dreamlike Swedish landscape. This cinematic work may serve as a prelude to his role in Romain Gavras' upcoming Netflix film, 'Sacrifice.'

Håstad has indicated that his engagement with artistic creation, specifically with wooden sculptures, paintings, and drawings, dates back to his childhood. However, it is only recently that he has decided to bring these works into the public sphere. This exhibition follows a series of recent artistic ventures, including a live painting installation at Thibaut Grevet’s TTGT Studio during Paris Fashion Week, in collaboration with adidas Originals. He also provided a preview of the 'Collected Works' project through a wheatpaste poster and studio imagery shared on Instagram. The exhibition space itself, located in an industrial former gasworks, is designed to immerse visitors in Håstad's artistic vision, featuring distinct environments such as a salon, a television room, and a screening room, interspersed with large-scale installations and sculptural seating.

Following the exhibition's conclusion, a select group of artworks, primarily sculptures, will be made available for purchase through an international online auction conducted by Bukowskis. Håstad has expressed a lifelong connection to artistic expression, stating, "Ever since I can remember I dreamed of colors." The 'Collected Works 2016–2026' exhibition represents a significant step in his career, bridging his established identity as a musician with his burgeoning recognition as a visual artist. The exhibition's scope and the inclusion of a new film underscore the depth and breadth of his creative output over the past ten years, offering a comprehensive look at his artistic evolution.
