Your Refrigerator Is the Reason Your House Isn’t Selling

A mismatched refrigerator can significantly impact a home's saleability, according to real estate professionals. Buyers, already facing high mortgage rates, perceive a patchwork of appliance brands and styles as a sign of neglected maintenance, potentially leading them to believe other costly repairs have been overlooked. Taylor Lucyk, a licensed real estate broker, stated that this "piecemeal approach" can instantly add an "expensive chore" to a buyer's post-closing list. Real estate experts generally agree that rectifying appliance mismatches is more cost-effective than offering seller concessions, especially for luxury or mid-priced homes where buyers are more budget-conscious. Lucyk estimates that a new, cohesive four-piece stainless steel appliance set typically costs between $2,500 and $5,000, a price often less than anticipated. He recommends purchasing discounted, single-brand appliance bundles to quickly modernize a kitchen. Dell Jeanty, a real estate agent, echoed this sentiment, noting that besides painting, acquiring matching appliances is one of the most affordable upgrades a seller can make. He observed that buyers often desire homes that are "HGTV home ready," and mismatched appliances are viewed as an "eyesore."
