WhatsApp released its standalone iPad application this week, enabling users to operate the messaging service directly on their tablets without requiring an iPhone to be connected or online. This new functionality allows the iPad app to function as a primary device, mirroring the experience already available on desktop applications.

Previously, iPad users had to rely on WhatsApp's multi-device beta feature, which necessitated their primary iPhone to remain connected to the internet for the linked devices to function.
