Rivian R2 SUV Order Invite Dates Announced

Rivian announced approximate order invite dates for its new mid-sized R2 SUV to reservation holders this week. The electric vehicle manufacturer aims to begin inviting customers to place their orders in the second quarter of 2024. This timeline applies to reservation holders in the United States and Canada, with specific dates to be communicated directly to individuals via email.

The R2 SUV, unveiled in March 2024, is positioned as a more accessible offering compared to Rivian's existing R1T truck and R1S SUV. It features a starting price of $45,000 and is designed to appeal to a broader market segment. The vehicle boasts a range of over 300 miles on a single charge and supports DC fast charging, capable of replenishing 125 miles of range in approximately 15 minutes.

Rivian also highlighted the R2's sustainable design, incorporating recycled materials in its construction. The interior is designed for versatility, with a reconfigurable seating system and a large rear cargo area. The vehicle is equipped with Rivian's proprietary driver+ assistance system, which includes advanced safety and convenience features. Production of the R2 is slated to begin in the first half of 2026 at Rivian's manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.

Reservation holders who placed a $100 deposit are eligible to receive an order invite. The company has stated that it will prioritize invitations based on factors such as the reservation date and the customer's location. Further details regarding the ordering process and delivery schedules are expected to be released closer to the production start date.
