Yeon Sang-Ho's 'Parasyte' Series Focuses on Tamiya Lore

Netflix announced "Parasyte: -TAMIYA-", a new live-action series set to expand the "Parasyte" universe, with acclaimed director Yeon Sang-ho overseeing planning and scriptwriting alongside Ryu Yong-jae. This project builds upon the success of the 2024 spin-off, "Parasyte: The Grey," which introduced the franchise to South Korea. However, "Parasyte: -TAMIYA-" will pivot back to the foundational lore of Hitoshi Iwaaki's original manga.

The series will present an original narrative centered on Ryoko Tamiya, a prominent antagonist from the "Parasyte" franchise. Tamiya is depicted as a highly intelligent parasite who assumed the identity of a high school teacher to meticulously study human behavior. Her storyline will explore her experiences with pregnancy and motherhood, alongside her ongoing philosophical inquiries into the symbiotic relationship between humans and parasitic organisms. This focus promises a deeper dive into the character's complex motivations and evolution.

Currently in post-production, "Parasyte: -TAMIYA-" is scheduled for a worldwide release in 2027. The titular role of Ryoko Tamiya will be portrayed by international actress Shioli Kutsuna, known for her role in "Deadpool 2." Kutsuna has described the role as the most demanding performance of her career, indicating a significant commitment to embodying the character's intellectual depth and internal conflicts. The series aims to offer a fresh perspective on a beloved character within the "Parasyte" saga.
