Yeon Sang-ho Returns to Parasyte Universe for Netflix Series

Director Yeon Sang-ho is returning to the "Parasyte" universe with a new live-action series titled "Parasyte: Tamiya," slated for release on Netflix in 2027. This project marks a continued collaboration between Netflix and Yeon, who previously worked together on "Hellbound" and the "Parasyte" spin-off "Parasyte: The Grey." Yeon developed "Parasyte: Tamiya" and co-wrote the script with Ryu Yong-jae, who also collaborated on "Hellbound."

The series will star Shioli Kutsuna in a leading role. "Parasyte: Tamiya" is produced by Wowpoint, the same production company behind Yeon's "Hellbound." The original "Parasyte" manga, created by Hitoshi Iwaaki, follows a high school student who must fight parasitic aliens that have invaded Earth and begun to take over human bodies.

This new series is expected to further explore the established "Parasyte" lore, potentially delving into new characters or storylines within the established universe. The involvement of Yeon Sang-ho, known for his distinctive directorial style in films like "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula," suggests a potentially dark and action-packed adaptation. The collaboration with Ryu Yong-jae, whose credits include "Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area," indicates a strong narrative focus for the series.
