Xiaomi Just Unveiled A Product Tesla Promised A Decade Ago But Never Delivered
Xiaomi unveiled the "Smart Charging Robot" on April 1, 2024, a device designed to autonomously plug in electric vehicles. This product addresses a convenience issue for EV owners, particularly when charging at home or in a garage where manual plugging might be inconvenient. The robot is capable of identifying the charging port on a vehicle and inserting the charging connector. It can also retract the connector and return to its charging station. This functionality aims to automate the charging process, removing the need for direct human intervention each time a vehicle needs to be plugged in. The development by Xiaomi offers a solution that Tesla had previously discussed, with CEO Elon Musk mentioning similar concepts as far back as 2015, but which has not yet been brought to market by Tesla. The Xiaomi Smart Charging Robot is expected to enhance the user experience for electric vehicle owners by simplifying the charging routine.
