Xbox Unlocks Mythic Achievements for Dedicated Players

Xbox Insiders are now able to preview Mythic Achievements, a new permanent profile status designed to recognize players who have completed every original achievement within a game. This feature has been a highly requested addition by the Xbox community, aiming to provide a significant marker for dedicated players. The Mythic Achievement system is designed to be retroactive, meaning that games previously completed by players, including titles from the Xbox 360 era, may already display this status without requiring any further action from the user. This backward compatibility ensures that years of gaming history can be recognized.

The criteria for earning a Mythic Achievement are intentionally stringent. Only the original set of achievements released with a game counts towards this status. Any achievements added later through downloadable content (DLC), post-launch updates, or expansions will not be considered. Furthermore, if new content is released months after a player has achieved completion, it will not invalidate a previously earned Mythic status. Xbox has explicitly stated in its announcement that "once you've earned Mythic status, it's yours to keep," emphasizing its permanence.

The retroactive nature of the Mythic Achievements is a key aspect of the feature, given that achievements and Gamerscore were first introduced with the Xbox 360 in 2005. This means the system can potentially span across approximately two decades of a player's gaming history. For long-time achievement hunters, accessing their profile could reveal a collection of past accomplishments now newly designated as Mythic. These significant milestones are now prominently displayed in a dedicated Gaming tab on each player's profile.

This new Gaming tab serves as a central hub for a player's achievements, showcasing their progress towards the next Gamerscore milestone badge and listing all games that have been fully completed. Mythic Achievements are visually distinguished with a unique frame, making them stand out from other entries in a player's history. This tab is also visible on friends' profiles, fostering a sense of comparison and community around completionist goals. For players actively working towards Mythic status, the system offers enhanced tracking. A progress bar is now integrated at the top of each game's achievement list, accompanied by a filter that allows users to narrow down their view to specific types of achievements or track their remaining objectives more effectively.
