World Cup Tickets Cost More Than a Monthly Mortgage Payment in These 5 Host Cities

The FIFA World Cup, commencing this Thursday in Mexico City, is drawing an estimated 5 million to 6 million fans to its 16 host cities across North America. A new analysis by PropertyShark reveals that in five of the eleven U.S. host cities, the cheapest World Cup tickets exceed the average monthly mortgage payment for that market. Fans attending matches in Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, Kansas City, and the World Cup Final in New York can anticipate ticket costs equivalent to or greater than their monthly mortgage. The analysis highlights that for the World Cup Final at East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium on July 19, the lowest-priced tickets are $7,256, while New York's average monthly mortgage is $4,096 and rent is $4,872. This means attending the final, even in the cheapest seats, could cost New York homeowners approximately 1.77 months of mortgage payments or renters 1.49 months of rent. Similarly, the least expensive tickets for a Dallas semifinal match on July 14 are priced at $2,391, surpassing the city's average mortgage payment of $2,351. The tournament's quadrennial occurrence and global appeal contribute to these elevated ticket prices.
