With Starfall, SpaceX eyes an edge in global cargo delivery from orbit

SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket on Tuesday to test its new reentry vehicle, Starfall, designed for global cargo delivery from low-Earth orbit. Developed in secrecy, Starfall is a saucer-shaped pod intended to facilitate "transport and delivery of goods through space," as detailed in an environmental assessment by the Federal Aviation Administration last month. The demonstration flight carried at least one Starfall vehicle from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, potentially alongside another payload. Following two orbits, the Falcon 9's upper stage released Starfall, which reentered the atmosphere and executed a parachute-assisted splashdown in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 800 miles west of California. This test marks a significant step for SpaceX in developing capabilities for rapid, orbital cargo retrieval and delivery to any point on Earth.
