New TV Series Premiere This Week on MGM+, FX, and Peacock

Several new and returning television series are set to premiere or debut new seasons this week, offering a variety of genres for viewers. From Sunday, September 6, to Saturday, September 12, audiences can tune into new installments of dramas and workplace comedies. MGM+ will launch "A Tale Of Two Cities" on Sunday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. This four-part series is an adaptation of Charles Dickens's renowned 1859 novel. The series stars Kit Harington, known for his role in "Game of Thrones," as Sydney Carton, a lawyer depicted as brilliant yet indolent. The narrative follows Carton as he becomes entangled in a complex love triangle involving Lucie Manette, portrayed by Mirren Mack, and Charles Darnay, played by François Civil. Darnay is a French émigré facing accusations of treason against the British crown during a period of strained Anglo-French relations. This romantic entanglement serves as a catalyst for the characters to navigate social upheaval, personal heartbreak, and dramatic identity switches.

FX and Hulu will introduce "The Drop: A Snowfall Saga" on Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. This series is a derivative of the acclaimed six-season crime drama "Snowfall." The new show centers on Wanda Bell, played by Gail Bean, and Leon Simmons, portrayed by Isaiah John, as they endeavor to establish new lives in Los Angeles during the 1990s. Having overcome drug addiction, Wanda is committed to pursuing her aspirations in the West Coast rap music scene. She enlists the support of her cousins, Lamar (Asante Blackk) and James Kinsey (Peyton Alex Smith), along with local rapper Artillery (Simmie "Buddy" Sims III). The pursuit of her musical ambitions requires Wanda to balance ambition and loyalty with the imperative of survival, as the realities of street politics inevitably influence her creative journey.

Peacock is set to premiere the second season of "The Paper" on Wednesday. The series continues to follow the "Toledo Truth Teller" newspaper staff, led by editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson. The second season consists of 10 episodes and picks up shortly after the conclusion of the first season, which saw the team achieve recognition through prestigious awards. Ned Sampson is now on the lookout for his next significant journalistic endeavor, while simultaneously attempting to manage his relationship with his lead reporter. The show is characterized by its "Office"-style workplace humor, offering a blend of comedic and dramatic elements within the context of a local newspaper's operations. The series aims to provide a slightly less awkward comedic experience compared to some other mockumentary-style shows, focusing on the professional and personal lives of its characters.
