What to do with old jerseys? The Golden State Warriors have an idea

The Golden State Warriors and Rakuten are launching the Warriors Golden Legacy Collection, a limited-edition line of upcycled merchandise, on June 18, 2024. This initiative repurposes old jerseys from the nine-year partnership between the NBA team and the Japanese online retail marketplace. The collection features premium materials such as genuine leather mixed with the retired jerseys to create unique items for fans. Available to Rakuten members through a sweepstakes until June 25, the collection includes one leather jacket, two duffle bags, 10 denim jackets, 10 clear purses, and 35 bucket hats. Wendy Bergh, Rakuten’s chief marketing officer, stated that the rich history embedded in the jerseys made upcycling a logical choice. The design process was led by Gustavo Servin, creative product developer at theheymann, a premium merchandise studio. Amanda Chin, the Warriors SVP of Marketing, praised Servin's modern yet timeless style and his ability to imbue the products with a custom feel and thoughtful storytelling. Servin and his business partner aimed to honor the legacy of the Warriors-Rakuten partnership through the creation of these distinctive pieces.
