Paralives Early Access Sells 250,000 Copies in 8 Hours

Paralives, an indie life simulator game, achieved significant commercial success upon its early access release on the PC platform Steam in May 2026. The game sold 250,000 copies within its first eight hours, demonstrating strong player interest. On its launch day, Paralives recorded a peak concurrent player count of 78,603. This figure approaches the all-time peak of 96,328 players for The Sims 4, a long-standing dominant title in the life-simulation genre, which was set in 2022.
The game's appeal extends beyond its commercial performance. Developed initially as a solo project by Alex Massé, Paralives now involves a small team of developers. Its success is partly attributed to players seeking alternatives to The Sims, particularly following EA's acquisition by a Saudi-backed business consortium, which some players perceive as a move away from more ethical practices. However, the game's core attraction lies in its emphasis on creativity and unique details, reminiscent of the early appeal of The Sims series.
For 26 years, The Sims, originally designed by Will Wright, has been the primary life-simulation game, evolving into a franchise valued at $5 billion (£3.8 billion) through continuous releases of new games, expansion packs, and collaborations. The emergence of new contenders like Paralives signals a potential shift in the genre's landscape, capturing the attention of even long-term fans of The Sims.
