Louis Vuitton Unveils Complex Escale en Alaska Pocket Watch

Louis Vuitton unveiled the Escale en Alaska pocket watch this week, a 50mm white gold timepiece that represents the Maison's most complex creation to date. This unique piece, part of the Escales Autour du Monde collection, pays homage to Alaska's Margerie Glacier and integrates advanced haute horlogerie with intricate métiers d’art.

The Escale en Alaska incorporates nine distinct animations powered by a Jacquemart mechanism, alongside 17 moving parts. It features a tourbillon and a minute repeater, showcasing significant technical achievement. The dial itself is a miniature animated theater, requiring over 300 hours of meticulous hand-engraving and enameling to depict a frozen Alaskan landscape.

The dial's artistry includes a blue whale, an orca with hand-sculpted white gold teeth, and penguin families on icebergs, set against a backdrop of aventurine-glass Northern Lights and a spinning gold compass rose. In a characteristic Louis Vuitton touch, miniature trunks open and close to reveal LV Monogram flowers. A 0.05-carat LV Monogram Star cut diamond, the smallest ever created, is featured as a shooting star.
