Vietnamese Films Dominate Local Box Office, Seek Global Co-Productions

Vietnamese films commanded a significant 70.6% share of the domestic box office revenue during the first five months of 2026. This marks a substantial increase from the 62.2% market share recorded for the entirety of 2025 and a considerable leap from the 42.6% share in 2023. These figures were presented by Dinh Thanh Huong, executive chair of Galaxy Studio and CEO of Galaxy Entertainment Holding, during the inaugural Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) Industry Days.

Huong highlighted the growing strength and appeal of local productions within Vietnam. The upward trend suggests a maturing domestic film industry capable of drawing larger audiences compared to international releases. This success provides a strong foundation for further growth and international collaboration.

Beyond domestic performance, Huong also used the platform at DANAFF Industry Days to advocate for increased global co-productions. He emphasized the potential benefits of such collaborations, including access to new markets, shared creative resources, and the development of more diverse and high-quality cinematic content. The call for co-productions signals an ambition to elevate Vietnamese cinema onto the international stage.
