USO Celebrates 85 Years Supporting American Service Members

The United Service Organizations (USO) marked its 85th anniversary this year, highlighting its significant expansion from its World War II origins to a global network. According to USO CEO Michael Linnington, the organization now operates at 260 locations worldwide, extending its reach to support deployed service members.
Linnington detailed in an interview with Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura and Christina Ruffini that the USO's mission has evolved to encompass providing deployed service members with essential connectivity, comfort, and entertainment. These services are crucial for maintaining morale and strengthening ties to home during their service abroad.
Beyond its operational scope, Linnington also emphasized the USO's continued reliance on public support. The organization remains largely funded by public donations and the efforts of volunteer entertainers who contribute their time and talent to support troops. This model underscores a long-standing tradition of community involvement in supporting military personnel.
