UNDERCOVER Launches Film Production With ‘UNDERGIRL’

Fashion label UNDERCOVER has launched its film production arm, UNDERCOVER PRODUCTION, with the debut of its first feature film, UNDERGIRL. This cinematic project expands upon the mythology established in UNDERMAN, an art book that accompanied the brand's Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The film, approximately 54 minutes in length, revisits the world of UNDERMAN 15 years after its initial introduction, bringing the fictional narrative to a new medium. UNDERCOVER PRODUCTION is a newly formed unit dedicated to filmmaking, comprising key figures from the fashion label. The production team includes Jun Takahashi, who also serves as executive producer, alongside Tetsuya Nagato, Katsuhide Morimoto, and Taro Mizutani. Katsuhide Morimoto, a photographer and filmmaker, directed the feature, while the screenplay was a collaborative effort penned by Takahashi, Nagato, Morimoto, and Mizutani. The narrative of UNDERGIRL centers on Yuri Ibuki, the daughter of the hero UNDERMAN. UNDERMAN has been depicted as a protector of the city, bearing its sorrows and safeguarding its inhabitants. The plot is set in motion when UNDERMAN mysteriously vanishes, leaving a void in his protective duties. A pivotal character, an envoy named Kiko, appears before Yuri and guides her towards her predetermined destiny: to assume her father's mantle and become UNDERGIRL. The film chronicles Yuri's journey as she navigates the challenges and transformations required to fulfill this role. The casting for UNDERGIRL features a blend of established and returning talent. Sena Nakajima takes on the lead role of Yuri Ibuki, embodying both the character and the UNDERGIRL persona. Ryuhei Matsuda portrays UNDERMAN, the titular hero. Kiko Mizuhara, who was involved in the original 2011 UNDERMAN project, reprises her role, adding a layer of continuity. Mitsuko Baisho also joins the cast as another significant character within the film's unfolding story. UNDERGIRL is scheduled for a limited screening run at SPACE PART 3 by PARCO in Shibuya, Tokyo. The screenings will take place from September 14 through September 20, 2026. Weekday showings are set for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while weekend showings will be at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets for the film became available for purchase starting September 2, 2026, through the venue's dedicated webpage, allowing fans to engage with this new extension of the UNDERCOVER universe. The film's development signifies a strategic move by UNDERCOVER to diversify its creative output beyond apparel and into visual storytelling, leveraging its established brand mythology to connect with audiences on a different platform.
