Lindell has gained national recognition through his MyPillow advertising campaigns and has been a vocal supporter of Trump, consistently echoing the former president's unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Trump expressed confidence in Lindell's ability to lead Minnesota, stating, "Mike will be SPECTACULAR!!! He truly loves Minnesota, as do I, and wants to bring it back from oblivion and embarrassment. He can do it!"

The endorsement also involves criticism of the current administration. Trump has targeted outgoing Governor Tim Walz, who is also the Democratic Party's nominee for Vice President in 2024, accusing his administration of incompetence and alleged fraud in federal childcare spending. Trump has also employed rhetoric that targets Minnesota's Somali immigrant population, suggesting they are responsible for the alleged fraud. Governor Walz has disputed these characterizations made by the Trump administration.
