Trump signs $70bn immigration act ensuring ICE funding through 2029

Donald Trump signed a nearly $70 billion immigration enforcement package into law on Wednesday, ensuring funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and border patrol activities through September 2029. The legislation, named the Secure America Act, passed the House by a narrow margin of 214-212, with the vote largely falling along party lines. Kevin Kiley, an independent who aligns with Republicans, voted against the bill, as did all Democrats. The Senate had previously approved the measure. The act allocates $38 billion to ICE, $26 billion to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and an additional $5 billion to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This funding is designated to cover operations through the end of Trump's presidential term in September 2029.
