The Washington Post cited reviewed materials, a U.S. official familiar with the operation, and another individual with knowledge of the president's travel plans as sources for its report. Trump had arrived in Turkey aboard a newly acquired, retrofitted jet gifted by Qatar. However, prior to his departure from Ankara, he announced his intention to travel part of the way home on an older model of Air Force One, described as a baby blue plane. At the time, Trump stated that the new luxury jet was being flown out ahead of his departure to allow U.S. troops stationed in eastern England an opportunity to inspect it. In Ankara, Trump was visibly seen boarding the older Air Force One jumbo jet, with television cameras present, before its scheduled flight to Royal Air Force Mildenhall in the United Kingdom.

Contrary to the public display, the Post report details that after boarding the legacy Air Force One, Trump was swiftly transferred minutes later to a smaller aircraft, identified as an Air Force C-32A. This transfer was reportedly facilitated using an airport catering truck, a vehicle typically used for loading meals and supplies. Trump then proceeded to Mildenhall on this smaller jet. The White House has not provided a direct response to inquiries regarding the Post's account of the secret operation to extract Trump from the country on a third aircraft, nor the elaborate deception employed to suggest he was on the baby blue Air Force One jet heading to Mildenhall. The report suggests the operation was a direct response to intelligence concerning a credible threat against the president's life originating from Iran.
