Tiffany Haddish Pleads Guilty to DUI, Receives 12 Months Probation

Comedian Tiffany Haddish pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence in Georgia on March 22, 2024, a development that allowed her to avoid additional jail time. The plea agreement stipulates that Haddish will serve 12 months of probation. This resolution comes after her arrest in January 2023, when she was taken into custody by Peachtree City police. At the time of her arrest, Haddish was reportedly found asleep at the wheel of her vehicle, which was stopped in the middle of a road. Officers responding to the scene detected the odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle, and Haddish was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI. She was booked into the Fayette County Jail following her arrest.

As part of the plea deal, Haddish has agreed to complete a program focused on alcohol education and will be required to attend at least two Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings per week for the duration of her probation. She is also mandated to refrain from consuming alcohol and must submit to random drug and alcohol testing. Furthermore, Haddish is prohibited from driving for a period of 30 days, and upon completion of this restriction, she must install an ignition interlock device in her vehicle for the remainder of her probation. The court has also ordered her to pay a fine of $1,877.50.

Haddish's legal team had previously sought to have the evidence suppressed, arguing that the arresting officers lacked probable cause for the traffic stop and subsequent arrest. However, the judge presiding over the case denied these motions, allowing the prosecution to proceed with the evidence gathered. The initial arrest report indicated that Haddish had slurred speech and watery eyes, and she reportedly failed a field sobriety test administered at the scene. She declined to take a breathalyzer test at the time of her arrest.

This legal entanglement has occurred during a busy period for the comedian, who has continued to engage in professional commitments. Haddish has been a prominent figure in comedy and acting, known for her roles in films such as "Girls Trip" and her stand-up specials.
