This Tesla Model 3 Went Nearly 400 Miles, 30 More Than Its EPA Rating

Edmunds' latest range test revealed that a rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 achieved nearly 400 miles on a single charge, surpassing its EPA-estimated range by approximately 30 miles. The specific vehicle tested was a 2024 Model 3, which is rated by the EPA at 272 miles for its standard range. During the test, which occurred over a 24-hour period in Southern California, the Model 3 consumed 67.4 kilowatt-hours of energy to travel 398.7 miles. This translates to an efficiency of 3.7 miles per kilowatt-hour, a figure Edmunds noted as being 28% more efficient than the EPA's rating of 2.9 miles per kilowatt-hour. The test involved a mix of driving conditions, including city streets and highway speeds, with the vehicle's climate control set to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Edmunds' testing methodology aims to provide a real-world assessment of electric vehicle range, often differing from standardized EPA estimates due to variations in driving style and environmental factors. The results suggest that the current iteration of the Model 3 offers a significant real-world range advantage over its official rating.
