The Sicilian community of Piana degli Albanesi, established 500 years ago by Albanian refugees, is facing an existential threat due to intensifying climate change impacts. Giorgia Caruso, a third-generation farmer in Piana degli Albanesi, exemplifies the community's struggle. She had envisioned her daughters inheriting the family's organic meat and dairy farm, continuing a way of life deeply intertwined with the town's identity. However, a severe wildfire three years prior destroyed several acres of their land and nearly two dozen sheep, making the future of the business uncertain. Caruso expressed her distress, stating, "I have two daughters I wished could take over our farming business one day, which is like our third child."
