Life-Size Pikachu Statue Adorned With 200 Gold Leaf Sheets

Japanese gold specialist SGC has produced a life-size statue of the character Pikachu, meticulously covered with approximately 200 sheets of gold leaf. This detailed creation will be showcased at a six-day gold exhibition hosted at the Yokohama Takashimaya department store. The statue stands at an official height of about 0.4 meters, with its ears included reaching approximately 50 centimeters, accurately reflecting Pikachu's in-universe dimensions. The application of around 200 sheets of gold leaf provides the familiar rounded body and lightning-bolt tail with a lustrous solid gold finish. This particular Pikachu statue is designated for display purposes only and is not available for purchase. It originates from SGC's internal workshop, a facility where the company undertakes the entire production process, from refining its own high-purity gold to crafting the final metallic art pieces. The exact method of gold leaf application has not been specified in the release, but the quantity of sheets used indicates a significant amount of manual craftsmanship involved in covering the statue's entire surface. Complementing the Pikachu statue at the exhibition are two other Pokémon-themed gold pieces. One is a life-size Gholdengo statue, measuring approximately 120 centimeters in height and utilizing around 730 sheets of gold leaf. The juxtaposition of the Pikachu and Gholdengo statues effectively illustrates how the quantity of gold leaf required scales with the size of the character. These two large-scale pieces are being released by SGC during the 30th anniversary year of the Pokémon Red and Green games. In addition to the display-only items, SGC is also offering one Pokémon piece for sale: a solid 24-karat gold Gholdengo figure. This smaller Gholdengo figure weighs approximately 15 grams, stands about six centimeters tall, and is designed to represent the character's signature ability, known as 'Good as Gold' in English, which signifies its immunity to status effects. SGC, a Tokyo-based company, is known for its comprehensive approach to gold artistry, managing all production stages from raw material refinement to the creation of finished products.
