Vet Aims to Boost VA Home Loan Use for Veterans
Navy veteran Travis Winfield has launched Military Operated Real Estate (MORE) with the goal of increasing the number of eligible veterans who utilize their VA home loan benefit. According to a 2026 NewDay USA survey, only approximately 13 percent of eligible veterans have taken advantage of this benefit. Winfield's initiative aims to bridge this gap by focusing initially on the real estate agents who serve military personnel and veterans.
The VA home loan program, established by the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, allows eligible veterans to purchase homes with no down payment and competitive interest rates. Despite its advantages, widespread adoption has remained a challenge. Winfield's MORE platform intends to streamline the process and provide better support for both veterans and the agents working with them. The organization's strategy involves educating agents about the nuances of VA loans and connecting them with veteran clients.
Winfield, a veteran himself, understands the unique needs and potential hurdles faced by service members transitioning to civilian life and seeking homeownership. By creating a dedicated network and resource hub, MORE seeks to demystify the VA loan process and encourage more veterans to leverage this significant financial tool. The long-term vision is to empower veterans not just through homeownership but by fostering a sense of investment and belonging within their communities. The initiative highlights a persistent challenge in veteran support services: ensuring that earned benefits reach the intended recipients effectively.
