Tiny Vinyl Launches Miniature Record Player for 4-Inch Records

Tiny Vinyl, a startup founded in 2023, has announced the release of its Tiny Vinyl Player, a miniature record player designed to play its 4-inch vinyl records. This new product, priced at $49.99, features built-in stereo speakers and a faux leather clamshell cabinet, positioning it as both a collector's item and an accessible device for younger audiences. The Tiny Vinyl Player will be available through an exclusive partnership with Target.

The development of the Tiny Vinyl Player represents the next step for the company, which first launched its 4-inch vinyl records last year. These miniature records, capable of playing a single song on each side, were described by co-founder Neil Kohler as a significant engineering feat due to the physics involved in playing vinyl at such a small scale. The company has already pressed over 1 million records since partnering with Target to sell them in over 1,800 U.S. stores last fall.

The idea for a dedicated miniature record player had been considered since the company's inception. Inbound inquiries from consumers and a direct question from Target about producing a player prompted co-founders Kohler and Jesse Mann to embark on a year-long development process. While some components, such as the needle cartridge, were sourced from existing suppliers, many other parts required custom manufacturing. The company's success is underscored by its substantial record production numbers, indicating a growing market interest in its unique approach to the vinyl format.
