Amex, Capital One Lounges Lead US Airport Satisfaction Study

The American Express Centurion Lounge and Capital One Lounge have been recognized as the top-performing airport lounges in the United States, according to the findings of the JD Power 2026 US Airport Lounge Satisfaction Study. These two credit card-branded lounges share the highest national ranking, with the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club securing the third position. The study, which surveyed 3,000 individuals between April and June 2026, assessed customer satisfaction across eight key dimensions of the airport lounge experience. These dimensions included the overall value of the experience, the quality and helpfulness of staff, the food and beverage offerings, the cleanliness and general upkeep of the facilities, the available amenities, the ease with which guests could access the lounge, and the ambiance and Wi-Fi service provided.

Andrea Stokes, hospitality practice lead at JD Power, commented on the findings, noting that the burgeoning demand for air travel is placing significant pressure on airport lounges, leading to crowded conditions and food and beverage selections that often fall short of passenger expectations. She emphasized the growing importance of the airport lounge segment within the broader travel economy and highlighted the necessity for lounge operators and their partners to consistently innovate and enhance the guest experience through superior food and beverage quality and improved staff satisfaction. The study revealed that while 77% of lounge guests perceived the staff as welcoming, only approximately half found the staff to be happy or knowledgeable.

The study also shed light on the primary motivations for travelers seeking refuge in airport lounges. A significant 39% of lounge patrons indicated that they utilize lounges to avoid the high costs associated with purchasing food and beverages within the main airport terminals. Furthermore, nearly half of the surveyed guests reported that the quality of meals served within the lounges exceeded their expectations. Another key driver for lounge visits, cited by 45% of participants, was the desire to escape the crowded and often chaotic environment of the general airport concourses. Despite these benefits, the data suggests that lounges themselves are experiencing increasing levels of congestion, indicating a growing demand that challenges the capacity of these premium spaces. The study's methodology involved a comprehensive evaluation of customer feedback, aiming to provide actionable insights for the airport lounge industry to improve service standards and guest satisfaction amidst rising travel volumes.
