Sam's Club Rotisserie Chicken Tops Consumer Reports Ranking

Sam's Club Member's Mark Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken has been named the top rotisserie chicken by Consumer Reports, dethroning Costco's Kirkland Signature offering. The nonprofit organization conducted a comprehensive study, evaluating ten popular rotisserie chickens from major retailers based on taste, texture, sodium content, and the safety of their plastic packaging. The Sam's Club chicken, priced at $4.98 for a 3 lb. bird, was praised by experts for its paprika rub, which imparts a bronzed color and deep roasted flavor.
Costco's Kirkland Signature Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken, previously a consistent favorite, was ranked second. It is priced similarly at $4.99 for 3 lbs. and noted for its plumpness, though Consumer Reports found its saltiness varied. The study involved purchasing 10 to 13 chickens from each retailer, ensuring they were kept warm and insulated during transport. Sensory experts conducted blind taste tests, while other chickens were sent to laboratories for chemical analysis of packaging and comparison of labeling to actual weight and sodium levels.
Other retailers also featured in the ranking. Stop & Shop's Whole Rotisserie Chicken, despite a higher price point of $7.99 for 1.75 lbs., secured a higher position due to its flavor. Walmart's Traditional Fully-Cooked Rotisserie Chicken, priced at $5.97 for 2.25 lbs., was recognized for its subtle lemon and rosemary notes. The study aimed to provide consumers with detailed insights beyond just convenience, highlighting critical factors that contribute to the overall quality and safety of rotisserie chicken products available in the market.
