First Minecraft Roller Coaster Launches in London 2027

Chessington World of Adventures Resort is set to launch the world's first roller coaster based on the popular video game Minecraft in 2027. This new attraction, named Escape the Nether, will be the centerpiece of Minecraft World, a new themed land opening at the resort in southwest London. The development of Minecraft World is a collaboration between Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft, and Merlin Entertainments, a global leader in location-based entertainment. Escape the Nether will immerse riders in the game's narrative, beginning their journey in a minecart. Passengers will join Minecraft's default playable characters, Steve and Alex, as they navigate the perilous Nether dimension, a fiery underworld filled with hostile mobs and lava. The ride culminates in a launch sequence that propels riders back to the familiar Overworld, replicating a core gameplay experience. The Nether theme will be visually prominent throughout the ride's design, with extensive use of lava-inspired scenery. Complementing the roller coaster is the Minecraft Hotel, which will be the first official hotel themed around the game. The hotel's design aims to transport guests directly into the Minecraft universe from the moment they arrive. The check-in area will evoke the Overworld with blocky trees and animal figures. Guests will ascend in lifts designed to resemble Nether Portals and traverse hallways styled as mine tunnels, creating an immersive exploration experience on the way to their rooms. These guest rooms, referred to as "respawn points," will meticulously recreate Minecraft's distinctive visual aesthetic. They will be furnished with elements reflecting the game's blocks, items, mobs, textures, and color palettes, catering to both long-time fans and new players. The culinary offerings at the hotel will also align with the Minecraft theme. The hotel's restaurant will feature an underwater theme, drawing inspiration from the game's diverse ocean biomes. Additionally, the hotel bar will be modeled after the in-game Woodland Mansion, and its beverages will be presented as the game's colorful potions. Beyond the primary attractions of the roller coaster and hotel, Minecraft World is planned to feature additional elements that further expand the immersive experience for visitors. These elements are expected to draw upon the rich lore and diverse environments established within the Minecraft franchise, offering a comprehensive engagement with the game's world for all ages.
