Volkswagen and n+ Launch E-Bikes With Automotive Safety Tech

Volkswagen and premium e-bike specialist n+ have launched a new range of licensed electric bicycles integrating automotive-grade safety technology for urban cyclists. The new Sport and Crossover models prioritize rider awareness with a sophisticated network of sensors and cameras, aiming to improve safety in congested city environments. This initiative seeks to provide cyclists with enhanced awareness and clearer visual cues to motorists.

The core of the safety system is the "Smart View" ecosystem, which combines a high-definition rear-facing camera with integrated radar sensors to monitor approaching traffic. This system provides real-time video feeds and proximity alerts displayed on a handlebar-mounted screen, allowing riders to check blind spots without diverting their attention from the road. The e-bikes also feature an LED strip embedded in the frame that functions as a daytime running light and dynamically adjusts its illumination based on riding behavior, such as glowing red during braking and flashing amber for turns.

Further enhancing safety, the e-bike lineup includes connected wearables. A Bluetooth-linked "Smart Helmet" features integrated crash detection, designed to automatically notify emergency contacts in the event of an accident.
