The viral Knicks chant united New York City. Now it needs a new ending

A viral fan chant, "My mayor Muslim, My bagel's Jewish, My Christian Dior, Knicks in four," emerged following the New York Knicks' first NBA finals appearance since 1999. The chant was first shared by Jamaica, Queens, native MD Ahnaf Hossain during a Kalshi interview after the Knicks' Game 1 victory. It references various New York City icons, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city's diverse culinary influences, and Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke's lyrics. The chant quickly gained traction across the city, appearing in political messaging, on a music stage at Gov Ball, and on merchandise. City Council member Shekar Krishnan led the chant at Gov Ball, with the crowd joining in on the "Knicks in four" line. Congressional candidate Brad Lander also adapted the chant for self-promotion on Instagram. Despite the chant's popularity, the Knicks lost Game 3 of the finals to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, extending the best-of-seven series to at least five games, though fan spirits remain high.
