Werewolves Live Immersive Theatre Offers Bawdy Fun

The Night of the Werewolves, a new immersive theatre production by Silent Uproar, places audience members into the roles of villagers in a remote settlement, tasking them with avoiding the pyre in a game of survival and wit. The performance, which opened at the Fruit Market in Hull, draws parallels to the popular BBC series The Traitors, requiring participants to deduce who among them are werewolves.

Upon arrival, attendees are welcomed by Alex Mitchell, who outlines the parameters of the experience and emphasizes consent, noting the production is rated 18+. Each audience member receives a card assigning them a specific character from the village, such as an innkeeper, butcher, chandler, or brothel owner. The audience is encouraged to name their characters, with one participant adopting the persona of Chanandler Bong, a candlestick maker.

The production features theatrical elements including set and lighting design, an atmospheric sound design by Eddi Pickard, and a central performance. Despite its interactive, game-show format, the show incorporates directorial and script elements, prompting questions about its classification as theatre. The core of the experience revolves around the audience actively participating in a game akin to Mafia, where social deduction and deception are key to survival.
