George Michael's Secret Star-Studded Duets Project Revealed

In 1992, George Michael embarked on a secret musical project under the alias the Trojan Souls, intended to feature duets with several of his admired artists. This initiative arose during a period of intense conflict with his record label, Sony Records, and a desire to assert his artistic independence. Michael dedicated months to developing songs specifically for legendary performers such as Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, and Sade Adu. The project, however, was abruptly halted and never revived following the tragic death of his Brazilian partner, Anselmo Feleppa, from AIDS in March 1993, which led Michael to withdraw from music.

While the "Trojan Souls" album was never officially released, some tracks from these sessions have subsequently surfaced through leaks. Additionally, candid, fly-on-the-wall footage captured by Michael's close friend and informal advisor, Andros Georgiou, has also appeared online. Georgiou has spent years attempting to have unauthorized clips removed from platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Now, in anticipation of the 10th anniversary of George Michael's passing, Georgiou is releasing approximately 90 minutes of this unedited video material under the title "Trojan Souls." He describes this release not as a formal film but as an "unfiltered view" of Michael at the height of his creative powers.

Georgiou explained his decision to release the footage, stating, "I thought these fans were making money from my rights so I decided to stop fighting and get it out there." He expressed hope that this release will shed light on what he hyperbolically refers to as "the greatest album never made." The project's ambition was significant, aiming to bring together a constellation of musical talent. Artists like Elton John were also reportedly considered for collaborations, underscoring the scale of Michael's vision for this clandestine album. The footage offers a rare glimpse into Michael's meticulous creative process and his interactions with collaborators, showcasing his dedication to crafting exceptional musical pieces.
