The China Show 6/26/2026 (Video)

China launched its first domestically produced large aircraft carrier, the Fujian, into the Yellow Sea for sea trials on June 26, 2026. This marks a significant step in China's naval modernization efforts, positioning it as a major global maritime power. The Fujian, designated Type 003, is equipped with electromagnetic catapults, a technology previously only seen on US Navy carriers, allowing for faster and more efficient aircraft launches. Its advanced electromagnetic launch system (EMALS) is a key differentiator from its predecessors, the Liaoning and the Shandong, which utilize ski-jump takeoffs. The vessel's construction began in 2017 at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, and its commissioning is expected by 2027, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Navy. The Fujian's operational capabilities are anticipated to significantly enhance China's power projection in the Indo-Pacific region, potentially altering the strategic balance with the United States and its allies. Analysts suggest the carrier will be equipped with advanced fighter jets like the J-20 and early warning aircraft, further bolstering its combat effectiveness. The successful completion of these sea trials will be crucial for validating the carrier's systems and performance before it enters active service.
