LinkedIn Names Top 5 Affordable US Job Hubs

LinkedIn released its second annual "Cities on the Rise" ranking this week, identifying 25 U.S. metropolitan areas experiencing rapid job growth and offering affordability. The report, which analyzes LinkedIn data and incorporates home listing data from Realtor.com®, highlights emerging markets beyond traditional hiring centers like New York City and San Francisco. This year's ranking emphasizes cities that balance career opportunities with cost of living and quality of life.

Augusta, Georgia, secured the top position in the 2026 ranking, marking its debut. Richmond, Virginia, climbed 11 spots from the previous year to rank second, while Reno, Nevada, achieved third place after being ranked 22nd in the inaugural report. North Port, Florida, also a newcomer, placed fourth, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, rounded out the top five, dropping two positions from last year.

According to Andrew Seaman, editor-at-large for Jobs and Careers Development at LinkedIn, a significant shift in professional priorities is occurring. "Two-thirds of professionals say they work to live, not live to work," Seaman stated, indicating a growing preference for locations that offer a thriving economy, expanding employers, and vibrant communities alongside career prospects. This trend is making mid-size and smaller metros increasingly attractive for career development.

Fifteen cities from the previous year's ranking maintained their presence, demonstrating sustained economic momentum and continued appeal to professionals. The inclusion of 10 new cities, including Augusta and North Port, in the 2026 list suggests a broadening geographical distribution of economic growth and emerging hiring opportunities across the United States.
