Tent collapses during Virginia church celebration, killing 1 and injuring 22

A large tent collapsed during a Virginia church's 20th anniversary celebration on Friday evening, resulting in one fatality and 22 injuries, officials reported. The incident occurred in Moneta, a community located approximately 124 miles southwest of Richmond. Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds, contributed to the tent's collapse while attendees were exiting the structure. The EastLake Community Church was hosting an outdoor service at the time. Shelley Basinger, a spokesperson for Bedford County, confirmed the weather's role, and Abbey Johnston, acting chief of Bedford County Fire and Rescue, stated that the collapse happened as the group was leaving the tent. Emergency services responded to the scene to provide aid to the injured.
