Ten months later, the $100 Google Home Speaker is finally available for preorder

Google released its new Google Home Speaker for preorder on May 16, 2024, approximately ten months after its initial announcement. This marks Google's first new smart home speaker since the Nest Audio launched in September 2020. The Google Home Speaker is priced at $99.99 and is designed with a compact, round form factor covered in fabric made from partially recycled materials. It is available in four colors: hazel, porcelain, jade, and berry, with jade and berry being US-exclusive options. The device is engineered to deliver 360-degree sound for consistent audio quality throughout a room. A notable design feature is a light ring around the base that illuminates to indicate when the speaker is actively listening, processing a request, or responding, a design element also appearing on upcoming Googlebook laptops. For voice interaction, the speaker incorporates three far-field microphones and includes a physical mute switch for privacy when not in use. The device will officially launch on June 25, 2024.
