Teen crypto scammer stole $13M to splurge on private jets, Lambo

Trenton Richard Johnston was arrested on March 15, 2024, following a traffic stop where investigators uncovered a cryptocurrency scam. Johnston, a 19-year-old, allegedly defrauded investors out of approximately $13 million through a fraudulent initial coin offering (ICO) for a cryptocurrency called "Ignis." The stolen funds were reportedly used for lavish personal expenses, including the purchase of a private jet and a Lamborghini. Authorities recovered $4.4 million in cryptocurrency and seized various assets, including the private jet and the Lamborghini, as part of the ongoing investigation. Johnston is facing charges related to wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also filed a civil complaint against Johnston and his associated entities, seeking disgorgement of ill-gotten gains and penalties. The Ignis ICO was promoted as a revolutionary platform for decentralized finance, promising high returns to investors.
