TAG Heuer, Team Ikuzawa, Bamford Launch 150-Piece Carrera Chronograph

TAG Heuer has partnered with Japanese racing icon Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department to release a new collaborative Carrera Chronograph, limited to 150 units worldwide. This marks the second collaboration between the entities, following their initial project in 2023. The design of this limited-edition timepiece is deeply rooted in the visual aesthetics of 1970s and 1980s Japanese motorsport, reinterpreted with contemporary watchmaking features. The creative direction was led by Team Principal Mai Ikuzawa and George Bamford, drawing directly from the Team Ikuzawa archive. A key source of inspiration was the graphic design and high legibility of the team's historic Roadmaster stopwatches, which were essential for precise timing in racing.

The watch features a 39mm steel case, finished with both fine brushing and polishing, and is designed with a "Glassbox" construction. This design choice, combined with a domed sapphire crystal, provides an unobstructed view of the dial. The dial itself is presented in white and features a textured "Clou de Paris" finish. Printed numeral indexes on the dial are designed to evoke the appearance of vintage timing instruments. To highlight Team Ikuzawa's signature color palette, bold red accents are strategically applied. These red details are visible on the lacquered hour and minute hands, the central chronograph seconds hand, the red-printed 3 o'clock minute counter, and a dedicated date disc positioned at the 6 o'clock subdial. This specific layout for the date at 6 o'clock is a deliberate choice to accommodate the prominent Team Ikuzawa logo.

Powering the Carrera Chronograph is TAG Heuer's in-house Calibre TH20-10 automatic chronograph movement. This movement is notable for its specific configuration, which intentionally omits a running seconds subdial. The resulting two-counter layout of the chronograph allows the 6 o'clock subdial area to be dedicated to the Team Ikuzawa logo. This design choice pays homage to vintage racing chronographs from the 1960s and 1970s, which often featured similar dial layouts for branding and legibility. The watch is presented on a seven-row steel bracelet, designed for comfort and durability. In addition to the bracelet, the timepiece comes as a set with two interchangeable straps. One is a white perforated leather strap featuring red stitching, inspired by classic driving gloves. The second is a red-and-white striped textile strap, which directly references Team Ikuzawa's distinctive racing livery. The custom sapphire crystal on the case back is also a notable feature, likely displaying further branding or design elements related to the collaboration.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, a model line known for its association with motorsport and precision timing, serves as the base for this special edition. The collaboration with Team Ikuzawa, a significant name in Japanese motorsport history, and Bamford Watch Department, known for its customization of luxury watches, aims to create a unique collectible piece.
