TAG Heuer Launches 50th Anniversary Monza Flyback Chronograph

TAG Heuer has launched the Monza Flyback Chronograph to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its original Monza model, a timepiece first introduced in 1976 to honor Niki Lauda's Formula 1 championship victory with Ferrari. This new limited edition watch, unveiled ahead of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d’Italia 2026, blends historical design cues with contemporary materials and advanced watchmaking. The watch is restricted to a production run of 500 individually numbered pieces, ensuring its exclusivity. The case of the new Monza Flyback Chronograph measures 42mm and is constructed entirely from forged carbon, a material chosen for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and unique marbled aesthetic, which guarantees that each watch case is distinct. This modern interpretation retains the distinctive cushion shape of the original 1976 model. The dial of the watch is matte black, echoing the visual language of its predecessor, and features prominent red accents for enhanced legibility. Key dial elements include white lacquered hands filled with Super-LumiNova for visibility in low light conditions. The dial layout incorporates two sub-dials positioned at the 3 and 6 o'clock positions, an angled date window located at the 9 o'clock position, and an outer black flange. This flange is equipped with both a tachymeter scale, used for measuring speed over a set distance, and a pulsometer scale, designed to measure a person's heart rate. The case is further protected by a fixed carbon bezel and a domed sapphire crystal. The exterior design is completed with a black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated steel crown and pushers, contributing to the watch's stealthy, dark appearance. Powering the Monza Flyback Chronograph is the in-house, automatic Calibre TH20-12 movement, which has been certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) for its precision and reliability. A notable feature of this movement is its flyback chronograph complication, allowing the wearer to instantly reset and restart the timing function with a single press of a pusher, a highly practical feature for motorsport timing. The movement is visible through a grade 2 titanium sapphire crystal caseback. The watch is fitted with a black perforated calfskin strap, detailed with red stitching, a design element that further reinforces its connection to classic motorsport aesthetics.
