Struggling to find a job? Try looking in Nevada

Nevada experienced a significant surge in job growth during the first quarter of 2024, adding 10,500 new jobs. This expansion represents a 0.7% increase in the state's total employment, reaching a record high of 1,477,800 nonfarm payroll jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that this growth outpaced the national average, which saw a 0.6% increase over the same period. The state's robust performance was driven by strong gains in several key sectors. The leisure and hospitality industry, a cornerstone of Nevada's economy, led the expansion with 4,000 new positions. This sector alone accounted for 38% of the state's total job gains. The professional and business services sector also contributed substantially, adding 2,900 jobs, representing 28% of the quarterly increase. Other sectors showing positive momentum include education and health services, which added 1,000 jobs, and government, which saw an increase of 900 jobs. The construction sector also experienced growth, adding 800 jobs. In contrast, the manufacturing sector saw a slight decline, losing 100 jobs. Despite these sector-specific fluctuations, the overall employment trend in Nevada remains strongly positive, indicating a healthy and expanding job market.
