Steve McQueen's Last Heuer Monaco From 'Le Mans' Could Fetch Up to $1 Million USD at Auction
Sotheby's will auction Steve McQueen's final Heuer Monaco watch, worn extensively during the filming of the 1971 movie "Le Mans," on June 15 in New York. This reference 1133B timepiece, with case number 159,381, is estimated to fetch between $500,000 and $1,000,000 USD. The watch is accompanied by a lockbox containing over 400 archival documents and 200 photographic reproductions from the "Le Mans" production, along with a sworn affidavit from property master Don Nunley. Nunley, who acquired three Heuer Monacos after filming, confirmed this specific watch spent the most time on McQueen's wrist. The extensive wear visible on the 46 by 40 millimeter stainless steel case further attests to its significant on-set use. Introduced in 1969, the Heuer Monaco was one of the first automatic chronographs available commercially, marking a significant moment in watchmaking history.
