Steam Deck Sales Decline After May Price Increase

Sales of Valve's Steam Deck handheld gaming PC have experienced a notable decline since the device was relaunched at a higher price in May. Historically, the Steam Deck has consistently ranked among the top-selling products by revenue on Steam, with brief dips outside the top 10 considered significant news. However, data analyzed by Boiling Steam indicates a sharp downturn in its chart position.

Following the resumption of orders in late May, the Steam Deck initially held the fifth position on the bestseller charts. This ranking subsequently fell to 14th place for a two-week period in early July. As of the current charts, the hardware is positioned at 12th place. This performance stands in stark contrast to 2025, when the Steam Deck consistently remained within the top seven bestsellers and was frequently in the top five.

Prior to the May price adjustment, Valve had warned of "intermittent shortages" for the Steam Deck starting in February. These shortages led to weeks of lower chart positions before the device became entirely unavailable. The subsequent relaunch with an increased price appears to have impacted consumer purchasing behavior, leading to the observed decrease in sales momentum.
