Sony Launches RX10 V Bridge Camera After Nine Years

Sony officially announced the RX10 V bridge camera this week, marking the return of its premium bridge camera line after a nine-year absence. The fifth-generation model retains the versatile 24-600mm equivalent f/2.4-4 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens from its predecessor but features a significantly upgraded internal architecture. The new camera is equipped with a 20.1-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR image processing engine, complemented by a dedicated AI Processing Unit. This combination aims to bring advanced speed and precision to the superzoom camera category.

The performance enhancements in the RX10 V are designed for action and wildlife photography. The upgraded processor enables continuous shooting at 30 frames per second with no viewfinder blackout, and a new Speed Boost function allows for instant access to maximum burst rates. Sony has integrated its real-time recognition autofocus system, previously found in its flagship Alpha mirrorless cameras. This system is capable of reliably tracking the eyes of humans, animals, birds, and insects, and includes specific recognition for vehicles such as cars and airplanes.

For photographers focusing on fast-moving subjects, the RX10 V offers a 3.68-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder with a 120fps refresh rate. The camera's physical design has also been updated to improve ergonomics for extended use. It now features a deeper grip and tactile controls that are consistent with Sony's current Alpha camera series. The camera also includes professional-grade video capabilities, such as 4K video recording at 120 frames per second and the S-Cinetone color profile, further enhancing its versatility for hybrid shooters.
