Soft Cell released their final album, "Danceteria," on September 6, 2024, marking the end of their recording career. The album is a tribute to the band's co-founder, Dave Ball, who passed away in 2023 after the album's completion. "Danceteria" draws inspiration from the iconic New York City nightclub of the same name, which was a significant cultural hub during the 1980s. The album features 12 tracks, including collaborations with artists such as The The and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker. Lead singer Marc Almond stated that the album was a way to honor Ball's memory and their shared musical journey. The release follows their 2022 album "Happiness Not Included," which was their first studio album in 20 years. "Danceteria" aims to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the legendary club, reflecting the band's enduring connection to the electronic and synth-pop scenes.
