Six Flags Unveils Record-Breaking "Bakunawa" Giga Coaster

Six Flags Great Adventure officially revealed Bakunawa, a new giga coaster inspired by Philippine mythology, scheduled to open in 2027. This attraction is engineered to set multiple world records, including becoming the world's tallest and fastest spinning roller coaster. Bakunawa is designed to be the centerpiece of a multi-year transformation for the park's Boardwalk district, representing a significant investment in the resort's ongoing revitalization efforts. The ride's name, Bakunawa, is derived from a legendary sea serpent in Philippine folklore, adding a thematic element to the experience. This unveiling follows the park's highly anticipated "Project Purple" teaser campaign.

Bakunawa is set to break six world records. It will feature the fastest inversion at 80 mph and introduce the first upside-down launch in roller coaster history. The coaster will utilize 20-passenger trains that are both floorless and capable of independent spinning, designed to offer a distinct sensation for each rider throughout its two-minute and 17-second duration. The total track length will be 3,163 feet. The attraction incorporates three distinct linear synchronous motor (LSM) launches. The initial launch will accelerate riders from 0 to 60 mph. Following an ascent to a significant height, a subsequent launch will propel guests to a top speed of 100 mph before a 382-foot drop. The coaster's layout also includes the world's longest stall inversion and a 180-degree bank spiral, providing panoramic views of the New Jersey landscape.

To experience Bakunawa, riders must meet a minimum height requirement of 48 inches. Park officials anticipate that this new structure will join an exclusive group of giga coasters worldwide. The project is positioned as the primary anchor for a revitalized seashore-themed area within the Six Flags Great Adventure property. The introduction of Bakunawa signifies a commitment by Six Flags to enhance its thrill ride offerings and attract visitors seeking extreme amusement park experiences.
