Sinfield reveals final MND ultramarathon challenge

Rugby league icon Kevin Sinfield announced on October 26, 2023, that his final challenge to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) will be an "Ultra 7 in 7" ultramarathon, covering 300 miles across seven days. This ambitious endeavor will see Sinfield run between all 12 English Super League grounds, starting on November 5, 2023, and concluding on November 11, 2023. The route is designed to pass through communities significant to rugby league and MND charities, aiming to engage a broad audience in his fundraising efforts. Sinfield, a former captain for Leeds Rhinos, has been a prominent advocate for MND research and support since his former teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with the disease in 2019.
This "Ultra 7 in 7" marks the culmination of a series of fundraising challenges undertaken by Sinfield and his team, which have already raised over £2 million for the MND Association and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. Previous challenges have included running the Marathon of Marathons, cycling from Scotland to London, and completing a 7-in-7 challenge in 2020. The "Ultra 7 in 7" is expected to be his most demanding physical feat to date, pushing his endurance to its limits. The route will commence at Headingley Stadium in Leeds and conclude at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington, with each day's run covering approximately 40-50 miles. The initiative aims to not only raise substantial funds but also to continue the vital work of raising public awareness about MND, a progressive neurological disease with no known cure.
The undertaking has garnered significant support from the rugby league community, with many former players and fans expected to join Sinfield for parts of the runs. The challenges have consistently highlighted the devastating impact of MND and the urgent need for increased research funding and better support services for those affected. Sinfield's dedication has inspired countless individuals, and this final challenge is anticipated to be a powerful testament to his commitment and the collective spirit of the rugby league family in the fight against MND. The funds raised will directly benefit the MND Association, supporting research into treatments and a cure, as well as providing essential care and support for individuals and families living with the condition.
