Misan Harriman Documentary Explores Photographer's Career

A documentary titled "Shoot the People" offers a portrait of British-Nigerian photographer, film-maker, and activist Misan Harriman, chronicling his rise to prominence. The film was completed prior to a controversy in May 2026 concerning some of Harriman's social media posts. These posts were interpreted by some as amplifying anti-Zionist conspiracy theories related to the Golders Green attack and drawing parallels between Reform UK's electoral successes and Susan Sontag's comments on the Holocaust.

Harriman's supporters have characterized the controversy as a smear campaign. The documentary, as it stands, presents Harriman as a self-taught and articulate photographer. He speaks candidly about his privileged background and his early experiences with racism within the British upper class. Before his photography career took off, Harriman worked in the financial sector.

His transition into photography began when an image of an anti-racist demonstration he captured went viral after being retweeted by Martin Luther King III, son of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. King III is also featured as an interviewee in the documentary. This event marked the beginning of Harriman's new career path. The film also touches upon his short film "The After," which starred David Oyelowo.
