Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Emir of Qatar, passed away on October 23, 2024, at the age of 92. He is widely recognized as the architect of modern Qatar, having overseen the nation's dramatic transformation from a small, relatively undeveloped country into a significant global player. His reign, which began with a bloodless coup in 1995, was marked by ambitious economic diversification and strategic foreign policy.

Under Sheikh Hamad's leadership, Qatar leveraged its vast natural gas reserves to fuel unprecedented economic growth. This wealth was strategically invested in a range of sectors, including media, finance, and sports, establishing Qatar as a regional and international hub. The creation of Al Jazeera in 1996, a groundbreaking satellite news network, significantly amplified Qatar's global influence and reshaped regional media landscapes. The network provided a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, often challenging established narratives.

Beyond economic and media ventures, Sheikh Hamad prioritized education and infrastructure development.
